The author considers the remuneration received by United Nations (UN) peace-keeping forces in Africa as of June 2012. Their work in the African nations of Libera, Sierra Leone, Sudan, and Congo is discussed. The author acknowledges that the forces are expensive for the Western countries who provide most of the support, but that the conflicts that would result without the peacekeepers would create a larger economic burden.
