The article discusses a laboratory-created strain of H5N1 avian influenza virus that can be transmitted through the air by two separate research teams including one led by Ron Fouchier of Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and one led by Yoshihiro Kawaoka of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The decision by the U.S. National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity's (NSABB's) to withhold the research from the public and whether the research should be published is discussed.
