Abstract: The article discusses the position statement of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) on a patient-centered approach for the management of hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes. A background on epidemiology and health care of type 2 diabetes is provided. An overview of its pathogenesis is presented. Also included are the different therapeutic options for the disorder.
