Abstract
- This article presents a study which identified sex-specific trends in annual Northern Saw-whet Owl movement during autumn migration across eastern North America. Using DNA analysis, the researchers determined the accuracy of the morphometric methods used by banders to sex the owls reported in the archives compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey's Bird Banding Laboratory. The study concluded that the sex-specific migration hypothesis is supported by the low variation in measurements between captures and the high congruence between genetic and morphometric sexing methods.
