Abstract

The State of Roraima, situated in the Amazon region of Brazil at the frontier with Venezuela and the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, is considered one of the main areas for trafficking women for commercial sexual exploration and other unlawful activities. Flows of the aforementioned illegal network will become even stronger after paving highway BR-174, the road that connects Manaus with Venezuela, which will empower these practices, exacerbated by the ease with which people can enter and leave the country by land. In fact, this study details the socio-spatial interactions taking place around the BR-174 highway (Brazil) and Branch Road 10 (Venezuela), in terms of activities for prostitution and the trafficking of women within the framework of illegal activity networks at the border.
