LEVON HELM 1940-2012.

The article presents a biography of the American musician Levon Helm, on the occasion of his death from cancer. The author describes Helm's childhood on a cotton farm in Turkey Scratch, Arkansas, and his early musical career with rock and roll musician Ronnie Hawkins, for whom he played the drums. A detailed account of Helm's success as a member of rock group the Band is included. In his later years, Helm held a series of concerts called Midnight Rambles in his barn, accompanied by a variety of well-known musicians such as Elvis Costello, My Morning Jacket, and Sheryl Crow.
