LOCATING THE SECULAR IN SAYYID QUTB.

The article examines the theories of Sayyid Qutb on Islam, as well as the secular through the analysis of Talal Asad's engagements with the secular. It focuses on the quasi-historical diagnosis by Qutb of the rule of jahiliyya, which he directly derived from the Qur'an. It discusses the Althusserian concept of ideology, as well as the interplay of the concepts of the secular, religion and ideology.
