Abstract

The article reports on research which was conducted to investigate the localized and systemic effects chronic exercise and inactivity had on conduit artery remodeling in humans. Researchers evaluated 38 able bodied subjects and 14 subjects with spinal cord injury. They found that remodeling of the arterial wall occurs systemically in response to exercise training and is unrelated to exercise type in humans, and that localized effects are evident with respect to the effect exercise had on arterial diameter, at least in the subjects that they evaluated.
