The article discusses metamorphosis and history of the Herzog August Bibliothek, a German library in Wolfenbüttel, Germany. In the beginning of the 20th century, the library was a private collection of manuscripts, and transformed into a state library of Braunschweig in the 20s. The library was transformed into a research library at the end of the century and nowadays focuses German manuscripts.
