Abstract
- An essay is presented on the history of Islam in New York City between the years of 1904 and 1954. Particular focus is given to African American Muslim groups including the Islamic Mission of America (IMA) and the International Moslem Society (IMS) and the leadership of black immigrant Muslims such as Sheikh Al-Haj Daoud Ahmed Faisal and Satti Majid Muhammad al-Qadi. Other topics explored include Moorish Science religious movement and the influence of South Asian Muslims on Islamic practice.
