Abstract

The article focuses on the analysis on the health effect and cost effectiveness of interventions that could combat non-communicable diseases and injuries in sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia. It says that the interventions involve fiscal or regulatory measures like increased taxes and treatment strategies like drug treatment for congestive heart failure. It states that an intervention is defined as highly cost effective when the cost of extra year of healthy life or disability adjusted life years (DALYs) is below the average annual income or gross domestic product (GDP) per person. Among the health conditions which are treated with individual and population based health improvement stratregies include cancer, cardiovascular disease, and injury.
