Abstract
- The article discusses the book "Purple Hibiscus" by Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie. The author describes how the book responds to works by author Chinua Achebe and how the book represents African literary intertextuality, or the dynamic between European and native African languages and cultures in African literature. The author cites critic Abiola Irele's book "The African Imagination," the difficulty of writing stories in an oral tradition, and the effect of colonialism on African literature.
