Abstract

This article reflects on relation to identities and foreign affairs in modern society, taking as a central crucial point the work of Polish sociologist Zygmunt Bauman, and as a link to one of the central personalities of the novel ''Austerlitz'' by Winfried George Sebald. In concordance with the ‘’elective affinities’’ between literature and sociology raised by Bauman himself, the text also poses other problems, such as uprooting, mobility and travel as distinctive metaphors of our time.
