Abstract
- The article reports that India's controller general of patents authorized precedential compulsory license for the Bayer cancer drug Nexavar (sorafenib tosylate) to make it affordable. The decision allows India-based Natco Pharma to make and sell a generic version of the drug without Bayer's consent. Bayer may reportedly appeal the regulator's ruling. Health charity Doctors Without Borders concurs with the ruling and looks to compulsory licensing for other expensive drugs.
