Prevalence and clinical factors associated with gout in patients with diabetes and prediabetes.

A letter is presented which described a study that investigated the prevalence of gout in patients with diabetes. The clinical factors linked to gout in a large community-based group of patients with diabetes was likewise examined. Data analyzed was from the Diabetes Care Support Service (DCSS). The findings reportedly supported previous results that have illustrated an inverse relationship between serum urate and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) in the general population.
