Abstract
- The article discusses the campaign for Scottish independence as of July 2012 as it relates to state religion and monarchy. The article states that the Scottish National Party (SNP) stated following the May 2011 elections that if the Scottish government became independent, it wold maintain the British monarchy. The article attempts to examine how Scotland could achieve independence and simultaneously retain the monarchy, including constitutional issues related to the Acts of Union from 1706 and 1707, and the Act of Settlement of 1700.
