Abstract

The article focuses on the study conducted by researchers from Louisiana State University (LSU) health sciences center led by Liwei Chen on the effect of sugar-sweetened cola to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk in pregnant women in the U.S. It says that the study showed that high consumption of sugar-sweetened cola can increase the risk for the development of diabetes during pregnancy. According to Chen, the reduction of sugary drinks can lower the said pregnancy complication.
