Abstract

The author expresses doubt on the conclusions by P. Schuetz et al in their review "Procalcitonin Algorithms for Antibiotic Therapy Decisions: A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials and Recommendations for Clinical Algorithms." He cites belief that meta-analysis is underpowered to provide evidence that pro-calcitonin (PCT) can affect mortality and inquires whether global adherence to the protocols can be a bias that affects the results of the meta-analysis.
