Abstract

The article reports on criticisms of the sports television network ESPN. It is suggested that the network's focus on live game broadcasting has driven up costs for cable television subscribers as ESPN has passed along the costs of attaining broadcast rights to cable operators. Other critics have charged that ESPN has compromised its journalistic ethics by not reporting stories that portray sports in a negative light in order to maintain access to sports stars they need to promote their network.
