Abstract
- The article discusses the history of the expansion of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina between 1880 and 1930, focusing especially on the border areas of the city that mixed both rural areas with suburban development. It considers how Argentine literature during the same period focused on creating novels as compared to the previously popular essays and poetry. Some of the topics explored include literature and history, nationalism in literature, and transitional spaces. A discussion of quintas, defined as either established country houses or mansions of the nouveau riche, is presented. Authors considered include Atilio Chiáppori, Roberto Arlt, and Vicente G. Quesada.
