Abstract

Sheehan's syndrome (SS) is a potentially serious complication of the postpartum, which remains important despite the progress of gynaecological and obstetrical conditions; it corresponds to an infarction in the adenohypophysis, usually precipitated by a brutal or prolonged haemorrhagic shock during the delivery. The diagnosis is made only several years after the obstetrical event, but it is known that some of the women who die in the month following the postpartum present clinical signs of hypophyseal insufficiency. The aim of this article is to educate clinicians on the various situations that can indicate the SS in the early period following a haemorrhagic childbirth in order to make an early diagnosis and start an urgent and specific management.
