Abstract
- The article explores the Horizon 2020 program proposed by the European Commission to fund scientific research in the European Union. The program contains three main objectives: to support excellence in the sciences through the strengthening of education and strengthen existing institutions, facilitate industrial leadership with government and private investments in biotechnology, nanotechnology, and other emerging areas, and solve common social problems such as food supply and climate change. The proposal must first be approved by the European Parliament and its member states, a prospect endangered by the European Union's financial crisis.
