Abstract

The article presents a study which examines the effects of prolonged formalin fixation on immunohistochemical staining to detect the proliferation of Ki67. It notes that the findings of the study reveals that prolonged fixation of formalin affects the ability of the immunohistochemistry (IHC) to detect antigens necessary for the diagnosis, prognosis and characterization of many solid tumour types. Ki67 in HT29 xenografts can also be detected using this fixative.
