The Coupling between Shock Waves and Condensed Matter: Continuum Mechanics to Quantum Mechanics.

Shock wave compression experiments are well suited to examine condensed matter changes in real time. A comprehensive understanding of these physical and chemical changes requires timeresolved measurements at a variety of length scales, and theoretical developments to link the experimental observations in a consistent manner.
