Assertion that politics support immigration restriction, while economics praise it; Efforts of Prime Minister Tony Blair to draw a clear line between legal and illegal immigration; Economic benefits of immigration, including growth in the labor force and increase in gross domestic product per head; Observation that those Britons competing for jobs with immigrants do not benefit; Conclusion that immigration slightly benefits business and most people, while making the poor poorer.
