Abstract
- The article discusses the collection of vernacular photography, or "snapshots" by anonymous photographers. The author describes the classification of vernacular photography and describes the popularity of cameras beginning in the 19th century. Specific topics addressed include collectors John Foster, Robert Flynn Johnson, and W.M. Hunt and 2000s exhibitions of vernacular photography including "The Unseen Eye" at the George Eastman House Museum of Photography and Film, Rochester, New York.
