FLYING FAREWELL.

A caption is presented to a photograph of baseball player Ted Williams and other players of the Boston Red Sox team taken on April 30, 1952 prior to a game between the Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers. The photograph is of a ceremony honoring Williams as he was to leave the team to serve in the Korean War as a fighter pilot. It is noted Williams hit the game-winning home run against the Tigers and that he missed nearly two full seasons in what was his second period of service in the U.S. armed forces.
