Abstract

A literary criticism is presented of the book "Challenging Liberalism: Feminism As Political Critique," by Lisa Schwartzman, in response to a symposium devoted to her book. The author discusses Schwartzman's view of liberalism and the ways in which it incompatibly incorporates individualism and abstraction, or the ideal forms of society. Topics include tensions between liberalism and certain strands of feminist theory, theories of inequality, and standpoint theory.
