Abstract
- An essay is presented on the 1999 film "Ravenous," directed by Antonia Bird, in which the author explores the Algonquin Wendigo myth and cannibalistic discourse understood through the writings of author Margaret Atwood and her novel "Oryx and Crake." The author comments on Bird's use of the Wendigo monster as a critique of Manifest Destiny and military resistance during the Mexican-American War. Also discussed is Atwood's theorization of the Wendigo.
