Abstract
- The article examines the contributions of Orientalist Duncan Black Macdonald to Christian-Muslim relations in the U.S. and abroad. MacDonald joined the Hartford Theological Seminary as a professor of Semitic Languages in 1892. He aimed to train his students to gain a deep understanding into religions aside from Christianity and challenged Christians not to look down on the Muslim religion. His life account shows his commitment to learning and understanding Islam.
