Abstract

The article presents a study on synaptic properties of glutamatergic inputs to subgranular layers of primary somatosensory (S1) and auditory (A1) cortices in the mouse thalamocortex model. It reveals that stimulation of the ventral posterior medial nucleus and the ventral division of the medial geniculate body results in synaptic depression and graded responses in S1 and A1. It also informs that excitatory neurons in all cortical layers receive direct input from first-order thalamic nuclei.
