Abstract
- The article discusses the effect of the potato on population growth and urbanization in Europe. It references the article "The Potato's Contribution to Population and Urbanization: Evidence From a Historical Experiment" by Nathan Nunn and Nancy Qian," which appeared in the May 2011 issue of "The Quarterly Journal of Economics". It is suggested that potatoes' nutritional value may have accounted for 26 percent of Europe's population growth in the 18th and 19th centuries.
