Abstract

Weil's disease is the most serious form of leptospirosis presenting with icterus and renal failure, which is seen in 5-10% of cases. In this report, four patients with Weil's disease who were followed up in our clinic between 2006 and 2009 were presented. All cases had an acute-onset fever, myalgia, fatigue, abdominal pain, and icterus. Thrombocytopenia, abnormal liver function tests, and increased levels of muscle enzymes and creatinine were detected in all patients. Microscopic agglutination tests were used for diagnosis. While three patients fully recovered, one patient had chronic renal failure as a sequel. Weil's disease should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients with fever, myalgia, icterus, severe thrombocytopenia, abnormal liver function tests, and renal failure.
