When following the construction of the generic and sexual female image in the works of José Martí, we see that this image is inscribed in a context of ambivalence made even more obscure by other layers of meaning. We could place these works in the context of Cuban erotic writing, which is a corpus that is characterized by what is deemed as prohibited and at the same time by conservative values.
