Abstract
- The article focuses on the policies of Western countries like the U.S. towards Islamic nations in the Middle East. Discussion of the "illiberal moderate" Muslims of the Middle East is included with a focus on their rejection of violence and terrorism, their disapproval of liberal forms of government, and their commitment to both human rights and Shari'a Muslim law. The U.S. foreign policy and approach towards the Middle East, especially in the Libyan conflict of 2011, is discussed. It is suggested that the U.S. should take a nonviolent pluralistic approach to interventions in the Middle East while encouraging democracy and liberalism in the region.
