Abstract

The article discusses inkstones which were used as a grindstones for inksticks and are regarded as pieces of art which reflect cultural and historical elements in China. It explores popular inkstones, particularly Duan, She, Tao, and Chengni inkstones. She inkstones were made in the Han Dynasty are known for their smooth and lustrous textures. Duan inkstones are purple and do not crack under cold temperatures. Tao inkstones are emerald-like and are excavated from the Taohe river.
