Abstract: An essay is presented on the interrelation of employment-centred structural change, transformative social policy and the politics of poverty reduction from a gender quality perspective raised at the 2010 United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) flagship report Combating Poverty and Inequality. It focuses on gender inequality which offers a distinctive perspective on the issues. It points to politics to achieve greater recognition for women's work.
