Abstract
- The article presents the author's reflections on the concept of "language" in regard to the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The author points out several ways in which the philosophy and treatment of language has shifted in the decade following the incident, including increased interest in Arabic language studies and the use of rhetoric in expressing the psychological grief of the event. Further commentary is offered asserting that in the aftermath of 9/11 U.S. society has become more insular and that such a shift is a problem.
