Abstract

The pressure ulcer is a skin lesion that arises in areas of body pressure uninterrupted, for lack of tissue oxygenation, and the action of compression and shearing forces that arise due to the grounding body. Pressure ulcers have their high incidence among bedridden patients in hospitals, thus becoming a serious problem for nursing staff, who must act prevent and treat these lesions that often arise in the sacral region, the femoral trochanters, heels, malleolus among other areas, thus constituting an important source of infection that compromises quality of patient life. In this context the present study aimed to conduct a literature review of nursing care in the treatment and prevention of pressure ulcers. Upon completion of this review concluded that it is of fundamental importance that the nursing staff know evaluation tools capable of identify risk factors for the formation of these ulcers, as well as holding knowledge about the healing process and strategies for prevention and treatment these lesions, as well as know to select the appropriate nursing interventions for each patient, ensuring comprehensive assistance to the patient.
