Abstract

The article discusses strong demand from China for U.S. corn. In July 2011 China placed a single order for 21 million bushels, more than the U.S. government estimated China would buy during a full year. Over a 12-month period corn prices have risen almost 100%. Many cite China's growing middle class as a source of increasing demand.
