Abstract
- The article discusses the work of Peruvian poet Nicomedes Santa Cruz and his success in challenging literary canon. His form of Black poetry thrived due to his personal type of ethnic perspective and his work in encouraging Peruvian society to recognize the presence of African culture in their traditions. Santa Cruz's work gained notoriety during the 1960s, a time when the country was affected by the Cuban revolution, the Cold War, and the American civil rights movement.
