Abstract

The article focuses on the technology behind the second, third and fourth generation sequencing methods and its challenges, limitations, and opportunities. It cites that the National Institute of Health has funded the development of the second-generation technologies and novel approaches to sequencing that include the use of scanning tunneling electron microscope. It outlines the advantages and disadvantages of third and next generation technologies such as Complete Genomics, and Ion Torrent.
