Genes and elite athletes: a roadmap for future research.

The article presents new methodological approaches in the field of sports genetics research, which can be applied in the near future to make an analysis of the genotype profile linked with elite athletic status as of 2011. It talks about studies on genotype-phenotype association making use of gene expression analysis. It is cited that recruitment of large enough samples of elite athletes of various ethnic backgrounds is the main limiting factor for future studies in this field. Also provided are recommendations aimed at reducing research limitations.
