Abstract

The article discusses a study on the relationship of small intestinal glucose absorption and duodenocecal transit with glycemia in critically ill people. The study subjects included 28 patients who were admitted to tertiary mixed medical-surgical adult intensive care units (ICU) and 16 healthy subjects. The study procedure included the infusion of liquid feed into the duodenum, the measurement of glucose absorption, and the measurement of duodenocecal transit.
