Abstract

This paper develops a number of maps which explore the relationship between migrants and the geodemographic classifications of migrants' origin locations or their destinations. Maps are shown for two regions and at two scales: for Greater London at Output Area level, and for England and Wales at ward level. For each region two maps are produced: one showing information about in-migrants, and a second showing information about out-migrants from each area. Each map is shaded according to the most commonly observed origin or destination area type using geodemographic classifications at Output Area and Ward level. The maps show patterns of apparent stability - where migrants come from or depart to socially similar areas, and also reveal a spatial pattern of areas for which there is less apparent stability.
