SUMO meets meiosis: An encounter at the synaptonemal complex.

The article explores the role of small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) in synaptonemal complex (SC) formation in meiosis. In the process of meiosis, the ladder-like SC is an important player especially in several chromosome interactions. The authors' discovery of the role of SUMO in the formation of SC revealed the protein-protein interaction in creating SC. They conclude that with this discovery SC can be a differential regulatory of structure and function of chromosomes.
