Phenolic compounds from Plantago major and P. lanceolata.

The article presents a study which examines the polyphenol compositions of the plantains Plantago major L. and Plantago lanceolata L. to find new sources of drug raw material. The study uses paper chromatography and silica gel to determine the polyphenol compositions of the plants. Results show that polyphenols from P. major contains 11 compounds such as gallic acid while 9 compounds were identified in P. lanceolata L. such as quercetin-3-rutinoside (rutin).
