Abstract

The article talks about disaster costs and the U.S. relief fund. A number of natural disasters were experienced by Americans in recent months and accompanying such events were the need for federal funds. Unfortunately, disaster costs are rising, cutting money from prevention programs that could reduce severity of calamities and making the disaster relief fund face a potential 3 billion U.S. dollar shortfall by 2012. The primary reasons for the deficit are the lingering expenses from Hurricane Katrina and other previous disasters.
