Abstract

This is an iconographical study of a hitherto overlooked drawing attributed to Giovanni Ricamatori in Berlin, showing different musical instruments: a violin, a crumhorn, a tabor pipe and a puzzling ‘fagotto’ — the name given on the drawing for the depicted instrument. Unfortunately the drawing is cut here and one can only speculate which instrument is meant. An organological discussion of all these ‘new’ instruments from the 16th century leads to a revision of the date for the drawing (1514/15) proposed by art historians. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
