Abstract

The article discusses stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy, a method for avoiding the diffraction limit which prevents regular microscopes from showing objects less than a few hundred nanometers in size. It uses laser beams, and is described as an advance over the near-field scanning optical microscope.
